Overview
This role involves providing legal counsel and representation to a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering families to access appropriate educational opportunities for their children. The Senior Counsel will ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, support governance, and manage various legal matters related to the organization's operations.

Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on business transactions, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Manage the contract approval process, including maintaining templates and standard forms.
- Support compliance with federal tax-exempt requirements (e.g., 501(c)(3)) and state nonprofit laws.
- Advise internal stakeholders on the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
- Represent the organization in court, arbitration, and mediation proceedings.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support case strategies.
- Coordinate with internal and external parties to gather evidence and documentation.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations.
- Identify and manage legal risks by tracking claims, disputes, and potential litigation.
- Coordinate with external counsel as needed.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- 5 to 10 years of legal experience; prior in-house counsel experience preferred.
- Active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar or eligibility for authorized in-house counsel registration.
- Experience in nonprofit governance, privacy, litigation, or public records is desirable.
- Demonstrated success in relevant job functions, projects, or industries may substitute for formal experience or education requirements.
