Overview
This is a virtual legal position handling insurance defense cases venued throughout the El Paso, TX and Las Cruces/Albuquerque, NM areas. Candidates located in the El Paso area are preferred, but applicants statewide who are comfortable traveling to in-person appearances as required will be considered. Responsibilities
- Represent clients in all areas of insurance defense practice, managing cases primarily of moderate to high complexity and exposure or involving unique insurance defense issues.
- Manage all phases of cases from intake through resolution.
- Litigate cases including preparation of pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs.
- Serve as lead attorney at hearings, conferences, interviews, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
- Develop trial strategies and arguments, utilizing knowledge of legal precedents to analyze probable case outcomes.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses of case approaches.
- Consult with Claims Executive team to provide legal strategy recommendations regarding personal injury claims.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Interpret applicable industry laws, rulings, and regulations.
- Functionally supervise and mentor attorneys assisting with cases.
Physical Requirements
- Work performed primarily indoors in a climate-controlled office environment; some fieldwork may expose the employee to weather elements.
- Frequent sitting or standing for prolonged periods.
- Occasional movement including navigating stairs, ramps, and uneven surfaces.
- Occasionally lift, carry, or move objects up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and manipulating equipment.
- Occasional bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, twisting, and reaching.
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively.
- Regular travel between offices, alternative work locations, and field sites may be required.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree and licensed to practice law in applicable states required upon hire.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of seven years of litigation experience.
- Experience in insurance defense, personal injury, and/or jury trials required.
- First and second chair trial experience in bodily injury litigation strongly preferred.
- Multistate jurisdictional practice experience preferred.
