Overview

This role involves serving as a strategic business partner and a skilled commercial, marketing, and product attorney within a small but impactful legal team. The position supports closing significant partnership and commercial deals, advising on risk management, and leveraging AI to modernize legal workflows. The role also contributes to building and scaling the legal function to support overall company growth. Reporting to the General Counsel, the attorney will collaborate closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end negotiation and drafting of complex, high-value commercial agreements, including customer agreements, API and data contracts, and vendor deals.
  • Collaborate with go-to-market, product, marketing, finance, and security teams to identify and assess risks and develop practical, efficient solutions.
  • Design and implement AI-enabled legal workflows to improve speed, consistency, and scalability while maintaining appropriate human oversight.
  • Advise on legal aspects of AI, data use, and automation, supporting responsible AI practices.
  • Provide senior leadership with clear guidance on legal and regulatory risks, balancing legal and business considerations and translating complexity into actionable recommendations.
  • Identify emerging legal and regulatory challenges and develop proactive strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the organization, serving as a go-to legal resource for cross-functional partners.
  • Mentor and learn from other legal team members.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience leading complex commercial negotiations, preferably with significant in-house experience at a technology or SaaS company.
  • Proven track record of independently leading and closing high-stakes commercial negotiations.
  • Experience providing business-oriented legal counsel to product and technology teams.
  • Working knowledge in at least two of the following areas: marketing, intellectual property, or privacy law.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools for scaling legal operations, including contract review, redlining, risk identification, task automation, and legal research.
  • Ability to provide strategic, time-sensitive, business-focused counsel to executives.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of simplifying complex legal concepts for non-legal audiences.
  • Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, data protection, and cloud contracting best practices.
  • Strong judgment in managing ambiguity, prioritizing competing demands, and assessing risk tolerance.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to build credibility and influence without formal authority.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operationalizing responsible AI practices within legal frameworks.
  • Prior involvement in designing AI-enabled legal workflows.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $185,000 to $250,000 annually, with variations based on location, experience, and other factors.

Location

This is a remote-first position open to candidates based anywhere in the United States except Delaware, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Hawaii, New Mexico, and West Virginia. Some roles may also be available internationally, with employment contracts managed through a third-party platform for locations outside the US and Ireland.
