Overview
An established provider of pharmacy services to long-term care facilities nationwide is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment attorney to serve as a key in-house legal resource. This role focuses on workforce-related legal matters within a highly regulated healthcare and pharmacy environment, supporting approximately 6,000 colleagues across multiple states.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal advisor on all employment matters including hiring, discipline, terminations, investigations, leave management, accommodations, and wage and hour compliance.
- Advise HR and business leaders on day-to-day employment issues across a multi-state, unionized and non-unionized workforce.
- Manage employment litigation, agency charges, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings, including oversight of outside counsel.
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, severance agreements, separation agreements, and HR-related policies.
- Lead internal investigations into employee complaints, workplace misconduct, and related matters.
- Advise on compliance with federal and state labor laws and applicable state equivalents across the organization’s geographic footprint.
- Support HR on labor relations strategy, collective bargaining agreement interpretation, grievance processes, and union matters.
- Partner with Compliance on workforce-related regulatory matters, including those specific to healthcare and pharmacy industries (e.g., state pharmacy board requirements, DEA, CMS workforce standards).
- Advise on workforce restructuring, reductions-in-force, and related WARN Act obligations.
- Provide training to HR and management on employment law topics.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
- Minimum of 8 years of legal experience, preferably combining labor/employment law, law firm, and in-house experience.
- Strong working knowledge of federal and multistate employment law.
- Experience managing employment matters across a large, geographically dispersed employer preferred.
- Experience managing employment litigation and agency proceedings.
- Labor relations experience, including collective bargaining and NLRB matters, is a plus.
- Healthcare industry experience, particularly in long-term care, pharmacy, or other highly regulated sectors, is advantageous.
- Excellent judgment and communication skills with the ability to advise senior business leaders in clear, plain language.
- Comfortable working autonomously in a lean, high-growth environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Typical pay range: $175,100.00 - $334,750.00 annually.
- Actual salary offer depends on experience, education, geography, and other relevant factors.
