Overview
A global life sciences organization is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support across its operations. This role involves identifying and resolving complex legal issues while balancing risk management with business objectives. The position emphasizes the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance legal output, efficiency, and risk management. The Senior Legal Counsel will collaborate closely with business leaders and legal colleagues, focusing on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements. Experience working on global or regional teams with a strong global mindset and cultural sensitivity is essential.
This role reports to the Vice President, General Counsel and is remote-based, with a strong preference for candidates located in Indianapolis, IN.
Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on commercial agreements and complex legal matters, including antitrust, bankruptcy, clinical diagnostics, and related issues.
- Manage litigation, government investigations, and regulatory matters by partnering with external counsel.
- Support global product, quality, and regulatory teams on life sciences/diagnostics compliance, including labeling, promotional review, and post-market risks.
- Provide practical guidance on global regulatory and compliance topics such as anti-corruption/anti-bribery, trade and sanctions, competition/antitrust, and third-party due diligence in partnership with Compliance.
- Support corporate governance, intellectual property, and Legal function leadership, including IP-related contract terms, confidentiality, open-source software use, board materials, delegated authorities, Legal policies, and representation in senior leadership meetings.
- Develop training materials, playbooks, and process improvements, including leveraging AI to enhance legal workflows.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years as a licensed U.S. attorney with active U.S. Bar membership in good standing.
- Experience in a nationally recognized law firm and in-house legal department, preferably within life sciences; global experience is a plus.
- Excellent academic credentials with strong judgment and strategic mindset to advise senior stakeholders and influence decisions in a complex, matrixed environment.
- Demonstrated leadership skills including mentoring, team building, and driving outcomes through collaboration and accountability.
- Substantial deal and negotiation experience, including leading executed transactions such as partnerships, collaborations, licensing, M&A, and research agreements.
- Awareness of AI, governance, and technology enablement as they relate to legal practice, exposure, and responsible adoption.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and stakeholders.
- Experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve legal processes, increase efficiency, and adapt to evolving AI-enabled workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with healthcare regulation.
- Experience with software licensing.
Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel globally up to 20% of the time.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $180,000 - $200,000.
- Eligibility for bonus/incentive pay.
