Overview
This role serves as a primary legal partner for the Product and Engineering organizations, advising on the legal implications of product decisions from conception through launch. The position focuses on how blockchain data is collected, used, and delivered, and on how AI-powered features are built on top of that data.
Responsibilities
- Serve as legal partner to Product and Engineering, advising on legal implications of product decisions from conception through launch across the product portfolio.
- Advise Blockchain Intelligence and Data teams on data collection methods and practices, data sourcing and licensing, and the permissible use of first- and third-party data.
- Counsel on the development and deployment of AI/ML features, including model training, data inputs and outputs, transparency, and emerging AI regulatory requirements.
- Advise on intellectual property matters relevant to the product, including ownership, licensing, and open-source use.
- Draft and refine product-facing legal terms, including terms of service, acceptable use policies, data terms, and customer-facing product documentation.
- Partner closely with Privacy Counsel on the privacy and data-protection implications of product specifications, technical architectures, and data flows, with a focus on legal risk, data minimization, and regulatory compliance.
- Identify legal and regulatory risks in proposed product features and recommend practical mitigations that preserve product momentum.
- Build scalable legal frameworks, playbooks, and self-service resources so Product and Engineering teams can move quickly with legal clarity.
- Collaborate with other members of the Legal team on regulatory matters, commercial agreements, and special projects as needed.
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school.
- Active bar membership in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar.
- 6–8 years of legal experience at a reputable law firm and/or in-house at a technology company, with a substantial focus on product counseling.
- Demonstrated experience advising Product and Engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle, ideally for data-intensive or AI-powered products.
- Working knowledge of legal issues that shape technology products, including data use and licensing, intellectual property, AI/ML, consumer-facing terms, and how privacy frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) intersect with product decisions.
- Strong commercial instincts, with the ability to provide advice that helps teams make decisions.
- Comfort operating in ambiguous, cross-jurisdictional environments with minimal supervision, managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
- Clear and direct communication skills, including the ability to translate legal complexity for non-lawyer stakeholders and engage senior stakeholders, external partners, and outside counsel.
- Comfort with AI tooling and integrating it into legal workflows.
- Experience advising companies that serve government or financial institution customers is a plus.
- Familiarity with blockchain, cryptocurrency, or fintech is a plus but not required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation range: $193,333 - $215,000
