Overview
A well-established property casualty insurer with over 170 years of industry presence is seeking a Senior Counsel to join their legal team. This role involves managing a caseload of higher exposure and complex litigation matters, including major cases and complex claims, depending on the line of business. The position offers the opportunity to independently handle litigation from inception through trial and appeal, mentor junior attorneys, and provide exceptional client service.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage a caseload of higher exposure and complex litigation matters.
- Utilize trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
- Conduct advanced legal research and produce strong, persuasive legal writing and presentations.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
- Attend court events, depositions, and other appointments independently.
- Provide substantive case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claims partners.
- Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants to develop case strategies and prepare testimony.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients and business partners.
- Deliver internal and external training, seminars, and legal updates.
- Mentor other attorneys and legal support staff.
- Initiate special projects and identify opportunities to support office goals and business needs.
- Utilize available technology, case management systems, and automation effectively.
- Travel as required to meet business needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney, specifically in insurance defense litigation.
- Active license in good standing to practice law in the relevant state(s).
- Proven track record of litigating jury trials with successful courtroom outcomes.
- Strong technical knowledge of the practice area and ability to communicate complex litigation matters effectively.
- Advanced oral and written advocacy skills, including experience with summary judgment and appellate success.
- In-depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and adversaries.
- Demonstrated leadership skills through mentoring and influencing others.
- Strong decision-making and advanced negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, urgency, and responsiveness.
- Flexible and agile mindset with willingness to take on evolving challenges.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to hearings, trials, depositions, and other court proceedings as required.

Compensation & Benefits
- Annual base salary range: $132,800.00 - $219,100.00, determined by factors including role scope, location, skills, education, and experience.
- Eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.
