Overview
This role is for a Senior Managing Counsel within the Business Law division of the Law and Regulation department. The position involves providing legal counsel on complex commercial agreements, primarily supporting non-insurance business units. It requires an experienced attorney with strong business acumen, transactional skills, and the ability to collaborate across sales and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, especially those involving technology, data, or service arrangements.
- Provide real-time, business-focused legal advice on commercial contracts, technology, and privacy matters.
- Collaborate effectively with business units, compliance, and legal teams to identify issues, develop solutions, and complete transactions.
- Lead the development of contract templates, playbooks, and process improvements to enhance contract review and negotiation efficiency.
- Anticipate legal issues and offer practical, innovative solutions in dynamic business environments.
- Align business goals with legal frameworks in regulated industries.
- Navigate ambiguity confidently and help shape emerging business models and opportunities.
- Foster open dialogue and collaborative problem solving within a distributed, virtual team.
- Supervise individual contributors, contractors, consultants, and temporary staff as needed.
Typical Day
- Drafting complex data licensing agreements.
- Leading negotiations of strategic commercial deals.
- Developing new contract templates, playbooks, or processes.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate and active bar membership in good standing.
- Minimum of 7 years of legal experience, preferably in a law firm or in-house legal department of a mid- to large-sized organization.
- Proven expertise in one or more of the following areas: commercial contracting, privacy, technology, artificial intelligence, intellectual property, corporate strategy, data governance, international operations, or highly regulated industries.
- Experience working within a corporate parent company and across affiliated entities.
- Strong leadership skills focused on collaboration, team development, mentoring, and strategic guidance.
- Executive presence with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple workstreams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant legal or business technology tools.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Demonstrated discretion and professionalism handling sensitive and confidential information.
- High business acumen, including assessing and communicating legal risk in a commercial context and contributing to business case development and ROI evaluations.

Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $151,700 to $220,000, based on experience and qualifications.

- This is a remote position with required travel.
