Overview
A senior legal counsel role is available to provide expert legal support on complex information management issues, including discovery (eDiscovery), third-party information requests, and enterprise records governance. This position involves developing and implementing strategies, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, conducting legal research, drafting and reviewing documents, advising on complex matters, and overseeing budgets related to eDiscovery resources and technology.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and operational oversight for litigation discovery processes, including managing external review vendors and overseeing records preservation, review, and production lifecycle.
- Act as a strategic partner to in-house and external counsel on discovery-related issues.
- Review and respond to third-party information requests such as subpoenas, including strategy development, scope negotiation, and preparation/review of objections and responses.
- Support enterprise records governance management, including retention schedule reviews and paper storage assessments.
- Proactively advise legal and business clients on emerging legal issues, risks, and strategic initiatives, including those related to AI and data-driven solutions.
- Lead cross-functional project teams to assess business practices, provide proactive legal counsel on emerging issues and risks, and integrate technology-enabled approaches into workflows compliantly.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant legal experience.
- Expertise in the end-to-end Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) lifecycle.
- Deep understanding of information governance frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with eDiscovery and legal hold platforms such as Relativity One, Exterro, and Microsoft Purview.
- Ability to counsel on emerging technology risks and defensible records management.
- Experience with AI-driven legal technologies.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Leadership experience managing multifaceted projects involving cross-functional teams.
- Ability to create pragmatic, balanced legal solutions and counsel on risk-based decision making.
- Advanced knowledge of legal disciplines with the ability to align work to strategic business outcomes.
- Experience utilizing technology and data analytics in decision making; familiarity with legal data analytics tools is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to manage a high caseload of complex matters.

Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $151,700 to $221,675, based on experience and qualifications.
- Position requires submission to a background investigation.
Location & Travel
- This is a remote position open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S.
- Travel primarily to Chicago/Northbrook, IL, with occasional travel to Dallas, TX; Charlotte, NC; Scottsdale, AZ; or other locations as needed for team collaboration and business purposes.
