Overview
A leading organization in the Finance & Insurance sector is seeking a Senior Privacy Counsel for the Americas region. This role involves supporting high-impact privacy initiatives that directly influence business performance and team success. The position requires collaboration across multiple functions to advance priorities, solve complex privacy challenges, and deliver measurable results. It offers the opportunity to shape both strategic direction and day-to-day privacy operations in a dynamic environment.
Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $230,000 – $300,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Act as a specialist privacy advisor for complex matters across the Americas
- Develop and implement privacy strategies compliant with U.S., Canadian, and Brazilian privacy laws
- Provide detailed legal advice to resolve complex privacy issues
- Adapt and execute the global privacy framework to ensure regional compliance
- Conduct and oversee privacy impact assessments for new products and services
- Manage data subject rights requests and responses to federal law enforcement inquiries
- Lead privacy breach preparedness and incident response efforts, ensuring regulatory compliance
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree with active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 7-10 years of privacy law experience, including strong law firm background and experience in a technology company
- Deep expertise in U.S. privacy laws such as CCPA and major state laws, with knowledge of federal regulations
- Working knowledge of Canadian (PIPEDA) and Brazilian (LGPD) privacy laws, with ability to engage local counsel as needed
- Proven experience managing privacy by design in product and engineering environments
- Excellent legal drafting and communication skills to clearly convey complex legal matters
- Professional privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/C) are highly desirable
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Familiarity with privacy frameworks and regulations including CCPA, PIPEDA, LGPD, GLBA, FCRA, Quebec Law 25
- Experience conducting data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and privacy impact assessments (PIAs)
- Knowledge of SQL databases, regulatory compliance tools, data inventory management systems
- Experience with incident response management software and cross-border data transfer solutions
- Expertise in Privacy by Design methodologies
