Overview
This role involves serving as Senior Product Counsel for Healthcare within the Legal team. The position supports product teams as their first legal partner by understanding how products work and what is possible within the applicable regulatory environment.
Healthcare regulation and privacy are central to the work. As products expand into additional regulated areas, the counsel is expected to build fast working expertise in unfamiliar areas of law, form defensible legal views, and provide clear guidance to product teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide healthcare regulatory expertise for health technology in the U.S., including legal analysis and ideas for navigating areas such as:
- HIPAA
- State general and consumer health privacy laws
- Anti-Kickback Statute
- OIG Medicare and Medicaid regulations
- PhRMA codes
- TCPA and CAN-SPAM
- Accessibility requirements
- Card processing and payments regulations
- Other relevant legal areas
- Partner closely with Product by developing a deep understanding of the organization’s business and how each product works, then advise teams on feasibility within the regulatory environment.
- Build working expertise in adjacent regulated domains as products evolve, including payments and card processing and financial services regulation.
- Translate regulatory complexity into actionable guidance by partnering with executive, product, engineering, marketing, and sales teams to identify potential regulatory requirements and effective execution approaches.
- Develop and implement processes that help teams execute based on legal guidance in ways that improve speed and efficiency.
- Protect patient data by partnering closely with the Chief Privacy Officer to ensure patient data is never jeopardized.
- Strengthen the Legal team by contributing to improvements and supporting colleagues in doing their best work.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; JD from a top-tier law school.
- 8+ years of healthcare regulatory experience across a combination of a top-tier law firm and in-house companies, preferably high-growth organizations.
- Licensed to practice law in your state of residence.
- Substantial product counseling experience advising product teams on regulated products, from concept through launch.

- Significant experience advising product and engineering teams on how to build and ship in a heavily regulated environment.
- Ability to learn new areas of law quickly and produce practical, defensible guidance.
- Creative problem-solving skills in ambiguity, complexity, and nuance.
- Excellent legal and business judgment, including balancing legal risk with business and commercial considerations.
- Strong ability to translate complex legal issues and risks into clear, understandable concepts for non-legal colleagues.
- Comfort engaging in dialogue about risk, with assumptions challenged by internal product owners or outside counsel.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a remote environment.

- Base Salary: $240,000–280,000 USD inclusive of base salary and variable incentive.
