Overview

An organization at the forefront of generative AI technology is seeking an experienced public sector lawyer to join their legal team. This role involves building and leading the government and public sector legal function, supporting efforts to establish relationships with government agencies, and facilitating sales to these entities. The position requires collaboration with go-to-market, business, engineering, product, and security teams to ensure efficient execution of agreements with government customers and prime contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Advise cross-functional teams on public sector procurement processes, proposals, and strategies for selling the platform to government agencies.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex government contracts, AI SaaS agreements, and other technology-related agreements with federal, state, and local government customers and prime contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and agency-specific requirements.
  • Provide contract lifecycle counsel including contract administration, performance issues, and government contracting compliance obligations.
  • Develop training and resources for legal and cross-functional teams.
  • Support additional legal work as needed in a growing company environment.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction (California, New York, or DC preferred).
  • Minimum of 7 years of law firm and/or in-house legal experience.
  • Strong transactional background with experience in complex SaaS, technology, and/or IP licensing and commercial agreements.
  • Expertise in government contracts and public sector transactions.
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements with federal, state, and/or local government customers and prime contractors.
  • Working knowledge of government procurement regimes, including FAR, DFARS, and related regulations.
  • Experience advising businesses on government and public sector sales strategies.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior government service.
  • Experience with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
  • Experience supporting go-to-market or sales teams.
  • Enthusiasm for solving complex problems within a small, tight-knit team.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $210,300 - $300,000 USD.

Location

  • Flexible work options including hybrid (3 days per week in office) based in New York, NY; San Francisco, CA; Chicago, IL; or Dallas, TX.
  • Fully remote work possible for candidates located elsewhere in the United States (preference for Washington, DC).
