Overview
This role involves participating in regulatory proceedings before state utility commissions to advocate for policies that support fair and competitive deregulated energy markets and renewable energy.
Responsibilities
- Lead representation in proceedings before public utilities commissions in regions where the organization operates.
- Maintain and develop relationships with regulators, legislators, and industry counterparts.
- Ensure compliance with state rules and regulations; draft mass-market sales contracts and research relevant laws.
- Assist in evaluating and advocating for legislation related to the organization's business.
- Coordinate with business units to develop positions and ensure effective advocacy.
- Support implementation of compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
- Research laws and regulations related to electric, natural gas, solar, and other renewable energy sectors.
- Perform ad hoc projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in Ohio.
- Minimum of 6 years of legal experience; candidates with less than 5 years may be considered for a Regulatory Counsel role.
- Strong legal knowledge and expertise in energy, regulatory, and/or compliance law.
- Experience working with energy law, utilities commissions, legislators, and regulatory bodies preferred.
- Strong research, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with adverse parties, industry groups, outside counsel, lobbyists, and internal teams.
- Ability to digest and summarize large volumes of complex information.
- Strong oral and written communication, negotiation, and litigation skills.
- General understanding of the energy businesses and related industries.
- Adaptability, multitasking ability, and consistent deadline management in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. full-time without sponsorship.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $110,850.00 - $177,360.00 (base pay only; excludes commissions or bonuses).
