Overview
This position uses litigation experience to defend insureds against claims and represent the organization in direct policy actions.
The role is remote (home office) with intermittent travel in California for case-related matters, depositions, and court hearings.
Responsibilities
- Defend and represent the interests of insureds and the organization in claims, ensuring there is no conflict of interest between the policyholder and the organization.
- Independently manage a caseload of minimally to substantially complex matters, handling litigation from pleadings through trial.
- Oversee all phases of litigation, including motion practice, depositions, expert discovery, and trial preparation, with minimal supervision.
- Communicate and report to policyholders and claims associates regarding litigation progress, strategy, and developments.
- Assist claims associates as requested in resolving matters through mediation, arbitration, settlement, friendly suit, or other court-approved resolution.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- 7+ years of related work experience, including:
- Experience as a licensed attorney in at least one state with some insurance defense litigation
- Experience taking and defending depositions
- Court appearances
- Handling dispositive motions
- Retaining expert witnesses
- Trial experience as first chair or solo trial counsel
- Valid license to practice law in good standing in the state of California.
- Proven ability to work effectively with people in conflict and controversy.
- Ability to self-manage and operate with a full caseload and minimal daily oversight.

- Pay range (annual): $159,200 - $238,800, based on experience and qualifications.
