Overview
This role provides legal defense and counsel for bodily injury and property damage matters, including trials, arbitrations, mediations, and related proceedings. In addition to litigation, you will advise business clients on day-to-day legal issues and collaborate with other legal teams on strategy and regulatory developments.
Responsibilities
- Represent insured individuals and the organization in the defense of bodily injury and property damage lawsuits, subrogation, and uninsured/underinsured motorist cases.
- Prepare thoroughly for and conduct hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
- Prepare and present pre- and post-trial motions effectively.
- Assist colleagues in resolving calendar conflicts in a collaborative manner.
- Provide counsel to business clients on day-to-day legal matters.
- Manage projects efficiently, fostering coordination and collaboration among legal teams.
- Stay current on and evaluate new laws, regulations, and case law; identify and summarize relevant issues.
- Collaborate with other areas of the Law and Regulation (L&R) department and provide proactive advice to business units on the impact of new laws.
- Monitor legal representation.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the Connecticut State Bar.
- 4+ years of proven litigation experience or strong litigation-type skills, including case strategy development, legal research, and advocacy.
- Ability to manage complex disputes and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong teamwork skills; collaborate effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative assistants under the guidance of Lead Counsel.
- Capacity to independently manage an active caseload and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, LexisNexis (preferred), and internet research.
- Comfortable working in a remote/hybrid work environment and willing to travel throughout Connecticut, including to courts and legal venues in the Hartford and New Haven area, as needed.
- This role is also eligible for a bonus plan.
Preferred Qualifications
- First or second chair jury trial experience.
- Proven experience with insurance defense.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This job does not have supervisory duties.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
- Bonus plan eligibility.
- Background investigation required.
- Technology setup provided, including a laptop, monitors, headset, keyboard, and mouse.
- Employees eligible to work from home also receive a monthly connectivity reimbursement to help offset internet costs.
Work Location
- Remote/hybrid with travel throughout Connecticut, including to courts and legal venues in the Hartford and New Haven area, as needed.
