Overview
This role involves serving as a Senior Trial Attorney responsible for defending insured individuals and the organization in bodily injury, property damage lawsuits, subrogation, and financial cases. The position includes handling mediations, arbitrations, depositions, and occasional trials, as well as providing legal counsel to business clients and coordinating legal teams. Staying current with new laws and regulations to provide proactive advice is a key component.
Responsibilities
- Represent insured individuals and the organization in defense of bodily injury and property damage lawsuits, subrogation, and financial cases.
- Prepare for and conduct hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
- Draft and present pre- and post-trial motions.
- Collaborate with colleagues to resolve calendar conflicts.
- Provide legal counsel to business clients on daily legal matters.
- Manage projects efficiently, fostering coordination among legal teams.
- Monitor and evaluate new laws, regulations, and case law; identify relevant issues and provide proactive advice to business units.
- Oversee legal representation and collaborate with other areas of the legal department.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree.
- Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar.
- Minimum of 4 years of litigation experience or strong litigation-related skills including case strategy development, legal research, and advocacy.
- Ability to manage complex disputes and work effectively under pressure.
- First or second chair jury trial experience preferred.
- Experience with insurance defense preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with LexisNexis and internet research preferred.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff.
- Ability to manage a substantial caseload.
- Comfortable working remotely and willing to travel throughout New York.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience in insurance defense litigation.
- Prior jury trial experience as first or second chair.

- Annual salary range: $90,700 to $153,925, based on experience and qualifications.
