Overview
This role involves serving as a Senior Trial Attorney focused on Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) and Bodily Injury (BI) litigation. The position requires managing a caseload from early issue identification through arbitration and court proceedings, providing strategic legal guidance, and collaborating closely with claims partners.
Responsibilities
- Represent insured individuals and the organization in UM/UIM arbitrations and litigation, as well as BI and related insurance defense matters.
- Handle time-sensitive UM/UIM petitions and responsive pleadings, ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines.
- Prepare for and conduct arbitrations, framed-issue hearings, examinations under oath (EUOs), mediations, and depositions.
- Draft and present pre- and post-hearing motions, petitions, and legal memoranda with a focus on research and written advocacy.
- Appear in court for conferences and hearings as needed.
- Collaborate with claims professionals, including participation in claim discussions and strategy calls related to UM/UIM matters.
- Manage a caseload involving UM/UIM and BI cases, emphasizing front-end legal analysis and preparation.
- Assist colleagues with coverage or calendar needs in a team-oriented environment.
- Stay current on laws, regulations, and case law impacting UM/UIM and BI litigation; proactively advise internal partners on legal developments and risk considerations.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar.
- Minimum of 4 years litigation experience with demonstrated strength in legal research, writing, and issue framing.
- Experience handling hearings, arbitrations, and trial-like proceedings, including framed-issue or single-issue hearings.
- Ability to manage time-sensitive filings and statutory deadlines accurately and with urgency.
- Strong analytical and advocacy skills; comfortable appearing in hearings or trial-adjacent settings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal research platforms.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, paralegals, administrative staff, and claims partners.
- Comfortable working remotely with periodic in-person court appearances throughout New York.

- Annual salary range: $90,700 to $153,925, based on experience and qualifications.
