Overview

A national leader in title and escrow services is seeking a Senior Underwriting Counsel Attorney to join its Agency Division in New Hampshire. This role focuses exclusively on title insurance underwriting, providing legal advice, risk analysis, and transactional support related to real estate title insurance matters. The position is remote until a new office opens by the end of the year, after which it will be hybrid based in Concord, NH.

Responsibilities

  • Provide underwriting support, legal counsel, and authorization related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
  • Apply underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite title insurance.
  • Guide company personnel in real estate settlement services.
  • Issue underwriting standards and guidelines following established company processes.
  • Prepare and deliver educational content for company personnel, agents, and customers, both in-person and remotely.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active and good standing Bar Admission in New Hampshire.
  • Minimum of 5 years of substantive experience in title insurance underwriting or comparable commercial real estate experience in a law firm.
  • General understanding of underwriting real estate transactions for title insurance policy issuance.
  • Ability to interpret and apply underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority.
  • Solid knowledge of New Hampshire real estate transactions, title, and settlement processes.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal and state real estate laws and regulations.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage a significant volume of transactions, multitask, prioritize, and follow up promptly.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills and ability to provide clear, professional, tactful, and diplomatic guidance.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to assess risk and offer practical solutions.
  • Collaborative mindset with decisiveness when necessary.
  • Creative and solution-oriented approach to resolving complex title challenges.
  • Ability to work hybrid 3 days per week in the Concord office once it opens.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preparing and presenting educational content related to title insurance underwriting.

  • Salary range: $120,000 – $200,000+ (based on knowledge, skills, experience, qualifications, business needs, and location).
