Overview
A well-established commercial insurance carrier is seeking a Senior Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney to join their Staff Legal team. This is a remote position based in Maryland, focusing on representing commercial insureds in high complexity, high exposure Workers’ Compensation cases in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Responsibilities
- Represent the organization in all phases of Workers’ Compensation litigation in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
- Prepare and defend high exposure Workers’ Compensation cases.
- Work directly with claims professionals to provide legal analysis and advice.
- Prepare and file legal pleadings and documents.
- Conduct legal research.
- Prepare for and conduct pre-trial discovery.
- Handle final hearings before the workers’ compensation judge.
- Conduct post-trial activities as appropriate.
- Operate under limited direction with broad authority on complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in Workers’ Compensation Litigation.
- Active membership in good standing with the Maryland and District of Columbia Bar Associations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe.
- Experience using Lexis or Westlaw.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims processes, and insurance defense litigation legal environment.

- Certified Workers Compensation Specialist designation is desired.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $155,000 to $175,000 annually.
- Eligibility for a short-term incentive bonus of 15%.
