Overview
A leading provider of national commercial real estate services is seeking a Senior Commercial Underwriting Counsel to join their team. This role supports real estate title insurance underwriting and settlement services, playing a key part in delivering solutions for commercial real estate transactions. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement for candidates in the Chicago area and fully remote options for those outside the region.
Responsibilities
- Provide underwriting support, legal counsel, and authorization related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies
- Apply underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite title insurance issuance
- Guide company personnel in performing real estate settlement services
- Issue underwriting standards and guidelines following established company processes
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (Law Degree) required
- Licensed and admitted to practice law in the state of employment, in good standing
- 8-10 years of title underwriting experience; commercial real estate experience preferred
- Familiarity with real estate law, including federal and state regulations
- Strong understanding of real estate title and settlement processes
- Excellent analytical skills and business acumen
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to provide alternative solutions and communicate difficult information tactfully
- Ability to collaborate effectively and build relationships internally and externally
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and follow up in a timely manner
- Ability to think abstractly and develop creative solutions
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $129,300 to $172,300 annually
- Pay is based on factors including knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, and geographic location
