Overview

A global entertainment organization managing a popular children’s brand is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support for its Mexico and Latin America operations. This role serves as the primary legal advisor for the region, handling commercial, compliance, and regulatory matters while working within established governance frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and guidance to business stakeholders supporting daily operations and strategic initiatives in Mexico and Latin America.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements including commercial contracts, leases, sales, marketing, licensing, and vendor agreements.
  • Advise on legal risks, contract interpretation, and practical solutions aligned with business objectives and risk tolerance.
  • Act as the primary legal contact for the Mexico subsidiary, triaging legal matters and escalating as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with headquarters legal team to ensure alignment with company-wide legal standards and policies.
  • Manage litigation, disputes, and regulatory matters affecting the Mexico subsidiary and Latin American business, including oversight of outside counsel.
  • Support compliance with local laws and regulations by identifying gaps, monitoring developments, and recommending best practices.
  • Research and interpret laws impacting the subsidiary and Latin American jurisdictions, advising stakeholders on risks and obligations.
  • Collaborate with internal commercial and operations teams to provide timely legal support.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of contract templates, policies, and guidance materials.
  • Ensure consistency and transparency between the Mexico subsidiary and headquarters legal team through clear communication and documentation.

Requirements

  • Law degree (Licenciatura en Derecho, Juris Doctor, or equivalent).
  • Licensed to practice law in Mexico with a valid cédula professional, or actively pursuing licensure.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience or equivalent expertise.
  • Broad generalist legal experience including transactional work and litigation or dispute management.
  • Experience supporting multinational organizations or subsidiaries, with ability to work across cultures and time zones.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, research, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to operate independently with sound judgment while collaborating with a centralized legal function.
  • Business-oriented mindset with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in intellectual property, marketing, sales, licensing, employment, regulatory, or consumer-facing matters is a plus.
  • Native or bilingual fluency in Spanish and English, with ability to negotiate, draft, and review legal documents in both languages.
  • Portuguese language skills (native or fluent) are a plus.

Additional Information

  • This is an individual contributor role with no direct people management responsibilities.
  • Reports to a Director, Associate General Counsel based in the UK.
  • Periodic travel to headquarters or other locations may be required.

Location

Mexico and Latin America region, with reporting to UK-based legal leadership.
