Overview
An innovative technology company is seeking an experienced and self-motivated lawyer to join a small, agile legal team supporting a growing business. This role focuses on providing legal guidance to core product and engineering teams, particularly on cutting-edge issues related to generative AI, privacy, intellectual property, and safety. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to senior business and legal leadership, with a strong interest in leveraging AI tools to enhance legal workflows and decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with strategy, engineering, product management, communications, and legal teams to identify and manage legal risks throughout all stages of product development.
- Provide pragmatic and strategic legal advice embedded within product teams as they evolve.
- Advise on emerging legal issues related to generative AI, content acquisition, IP/copyright, open source, and privacy.
- Develop and implement practical risk mitigation measures that increase operational speed and efficiency.
- Design and deploy scalable legal processes, automation, and AI-enabled solutions to improve efficiency, reduce cycle times, and deliver consistent, high-quality guidance.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree with 8+ years of relevant legal experience in demanding and innovative environments.
- At least 2 years of in-house legal experience at a technology company preferred.
- Expertise counseling on artificial intelligence, intellectual property/copyright, safety, and privacy matters.
- Exceptional judgment, integrity, and excellent communication skills.
- Process-driven and results-oriented with the ability to independently identify, prioritize, and resolve issues quickly.
- Strategic thinker with a proven track record of delivering creative and pragmatic solutions to novel legal challenges.
- Strong project management skills, capable of building sustainable programs and driving cross-functional initiatives to completion.
- An AI-forward mindset with experience using AI tools to accelerate analysis, simplify complex problems, and support fast-moving product development.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $158,765 to $326,870 USD, based on factors including location, experience, and skills.
- Position is eligible for equity compensation.
Location & Work Model
- This role is remote within the United States.
- In-person collaboration may be required 1-2 times per quarter.
- This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
