Overview
A leading organization in the Finance & Insurance sector is seeking a Senior Counsel specializing in Digital Assets. This role focuses on providing business-aligned legal guidance related to governance, compliance, and operational risk management within a regulated financial services environment. The position involves partnering with leadership, compliance teams, and cross-functional groups to translate complex regulatory and legal issues into practical recommendations that support responsible execution, improved decision-making, and sustainable growth.
Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $188,000 – $282,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal counsel for the product team on a variety of legal matters
- Interpret and apply complex U.S. and international regulations related to payments and digital assets
- Provide pragmatic legal advice to support the launch and scaling of innovative payment solutions
- Draft and negotiate commercial agreements aligned with business objectives
- Develop policies to address legal ambiguities for new product initiatives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on emerging payment technologies, stablecoins, and blockchain solutions
- Manage relationships with outside counsel and supervise junior attorneys
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the Arizona bar or another U.S. state bar
- Minimum of eight years of in-house or corporate counsel experience, preferably with a strong background in financial services law
- Extensive expertise in compliance with anti-money laundering (AML), consumer protection, and privacy regulations
- Experience advising on regulations related to payments, digital assets, and blockchain technology
- Proven ability to balance innovative business strategies with regulatory risk management
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Ability to make informed decisions in fast-paced environments with incomplete information
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of U.S. and international legal and regulatory frameworks
- Familiarity with anti-money laundering regulations such as BSA and FinCEN guidelines
- Understanding of consumer protection laws including GLBA and CCPA
- Experience with privacy laws such as GDPR
- Expertise in crypto/digital asset licensing or registration
- Knowledge of foreign bank prudential regulations and foreign corridor payments
- Experience with stablecoin issuance, tokenized deposits, blockchain-enabled payment systems, and crypto-native financial infrastructure
- Proficiency with contract management software, regulatory compliance tools, project management platforms, and data analytics tools (e.g., Excel, SQL) for legal research
- Familiarity with API management tools for digital asset integration and transaction monitoring systems (e.g., Actimize, SAS)
- Experience using legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and collaboration software (e.g., SharePoint, Slack)
