Overview
A leading technology platform is seeking a Senior Regulatory Counsel to lead engagement with regulators worldwide on a broad range of regulatory issues including online safety, content regulation, intermediary liability, and competition. This role involves managing regulatory inquiries, coordinating cross-functional responses, and advising on evolving global content laws and regulatory frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators globally, focusing on content regulation, online safety, intermediary liability, and competition.
- Lead responses to regulatory inquiries, requests for information, and other regulatory matters, coordinating with internal experts and outside counsel as needed.
- Draft clear and persuasive materials for regulatory engagements such as consultation responses, regulatory submissions, and position papers.
- Defend the organization in regulatory enforcement matters.
- Provide strategic legal guidance to cross-functional partners and legal team members on emerging regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate closely with Legal, Public Policy, Communications, and other teams to ensure consistent regulatory positions and external messaging.
- Monitor developments in legislation and regulatory guidance relevant to the organization.
- Support development of scalable approaches to managing regulatory risk across multiple jurisdictions.
- Utilize AI-enabled tools responsibly to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability of regulatory workflows.
- Identify opportunities to streamline repetitive regulatory processes through AI and other tools while maintaining legal oversight and quality control.
- Exercise strong judgment in reviewing AI-assisted work products to ensure accuracy and alignment with strategic positions.
Requirements
- Qualified to practice law in the jurisdiction of residence.
- Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience advising on content, platform, or other regulatory issues in a law firm, in-house, or regulatory body.
- Experience engaging directly with regulators and managing regulatory inquiries, investigations, enforcement matters, or government-facing processes.
- Strong experience analyzing and applying global laws and regulatory frameworks, preferably in content regulation, online safety, intermediary liability, privacy, or technology-related areas.
- Excellent judgment, integrity, and strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, practical responses.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to drive alignment in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities independently with attention to detail.
- Eagerness to learn, strong ownership, and a flexible, collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Demonstrated ability or willingness to use AI and other technology tools effectively and responsibly.
- Preferred experience navigating complex, multi-jurisdictional legal and compliance issues in a technology company or similar environment.
- Preferred experience with implementation and compliance with global content laws.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $158,765 to $326,870 USD annually.
- Position is eligible for equity.
- Final salary is based on factors including location, experience, and skills.
Location & Work Model
- This role is US-based only.
- The position is remote with an expectation of in-person collaboration 1-2 times per quarter.
- No relocation assistance is provided.
