Overview
A leading organization in the Energy & Utilities sector is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel with a commercial focus. This role involves providing business-aligned legal guidance to support growth while managing legal, regulatory, and operational risks. The position requires partnering with leadership, compliance teams, and cross-functional groups to translate complex legal issues into practical recommendations. The role also offers opportunities to enhance governance, improve decision-making, and support responsible execution within the energy and utilities environment.
Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $173,982 – $231,976 annually
Responsibilities
- Assist with board operations by preparing meeting materials and drafting resolutions
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance trends and internal policies
- Draft and negotiate a variety of strategic and routine commercial agreements
- Develop contract templates and implement efficient legal operations
- Advise on trademark strategy and manage intellectual property assets
- Provide actionable legal advice independently to non-legal business partners
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align on complex commercial matters
Requirements
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials
- Active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar
- 5 to 10+ years of high-level legal experience
- Expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts; intellectual property experience preferred
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional strategic thinking and negotiation skills
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with corporate compliance management tools
- Familiarity with contract management software
- Proficiency in legal research databases
- Experience using collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams or Slack
