Overview
An established commercial insurance carrier is seeking an experienced Trial Attorney to join their Staff Legal Team. This role involves representing commercial insureds by preparing and trying moderate to high exposure General Liability cases. The position offers remote work options for candidates located in the Austin or San Antonio, Texas areas.
Responsibilities
- Represent commercial insureds in all phases of litigation
- Conduct initial investigations and provide legal analysis and advice
- Evaluate damages and prepare legal pleadings and documents
- Perform legal research and manage pre-trial discovery
- Prepare for and conduct hearings and trials
- Handle post-trial activities as appropriate
- Mentor less experienced attorneys and provide leadership and training within the legal team
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree
- Minimum of 7 years of litigation experience
- Membership in the Texas State Bar in good standing
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe
- Experience using Lexis or Westlaw legal research tools
- Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims handling, and insurance defense litigation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with insurance claims and general commercial litigation, including wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle torts, products and premises liability, and personal injury cases
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities
- Proactive file and caseload management
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- First chair jury trial experience
- Ability to budget costs and assess exposure for clients
- Understanding of billables, diary review, and substantive and procedural legal knowledge
- Prior experience in an insurance defense environment
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
- PC literacy
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $150,000 to $180,000 annually
- Eligibility for a short-term incentive bonus of 15%
