Overview
An established commercial insurance carrier is seeking an experienced Trial Attorney to join their Staff Legal Team. This fully remote position is based in Colorado and involves representing insured clients in moderate to high exposure General Liability and Commercial Auto cases.
Responsibilities
- Represent insureds in all phases of litigation, including investigation, legal analysis, and advice
- Evaluate damages and prepare legal pleadings and documents
- Conduct legal research and manage pre-trial discovery
- Prepare for and conduct hearings and trials
- Handle post-trial activities as appropriate
- Mentor less experienced attorneys and provide leadership and training within the legal team
- Manage caseloads independently with strong case analysis and effective settlement and trial skills
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree
- Minimum of 7 years of litigation experience
- Member in good standing of the Colorado State Bar
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe
- Experience using Lexis or Westlaw
- Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims handling, and insurance defense litigation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with insurance claims and general commercial litigation, including wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle torts, products and premises liability, and personal injury cases from inception through trial
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proactive approach to file handling and caseload management
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Relevant first chair jury trial experience
- Ability to budget costs and calculate exposure for clients
- Understanding of billables, diary review, and substantive and procedural legal knowledge
- Prior experience in an insurance defense environment
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
- PC literate
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $160,000.00 - $180,000.00
- Short-term incentive bonus eligibility: 15%
