Overview
A senior liability trial attorney position is available to work remotely from Ohio. This role involves representing commercial insured clients of a financially stable commercial insurance carrier by preparing and trying complex, high-exposure General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.
Responsibilities
- Handle all aspects of insurance defense litigation, including initial investigation, legal analysis, and advice
- Prepare and file legal pleadings and documents
- Conduct legal research
- Manage pre-trial discovery and prepare for hearings and trials
- Conduct post-trial activities as appropriate
- Achieve optimal outcomes through technical excellence in case handling and trial presentation
- Apply relevant laws and legal trends to drive positive case results
- Maintain accurate and compliant case documentation
- Collaborate with claims adjusters to develop case strategies and escalate issues when necessary
- Provide proactive communication and customer service to clients
- Utilize alternative dispute resolution techniques such as mediation and negotiation within authority limits
- Stay current with industry trends and participate in professional development
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior attorneys
- Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
- Maintain confidentiality of claims information
Basic Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree
- Minimum of 7 years of litigation experience
- Licensed and in good standing with the Ohio State Bar Association
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe
- Experience using Lexis or Westlaw
- Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims processes, and insurance defense litigation
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensure in Pennsylvania
- Experience handling insurance claims and general commercial litigation, including wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle torts, products and premises liability, and personal injury cases from inception through trial
- Strong organizational, analytical, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- First chair jury trial experience
- Ability to budget costs and assess exposure for clients
- Familiarity with billables, diary review, and substantive and procedural legal knowledge
- Understanding of the staff counsel role within the insurance business
- Prior insurance defense experience
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
- PC literate
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $150,000.00 - $180,000.00
- Eligibility for a short-term incentive bonus of 15%
