Overview

A fast-growing global technology organization is seeking a Senior Commercial Counsel based in India, preferably in Pune or Bangalore. This role is part of the Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) legal department and requires 8+ years of experience. The position primarily supports commercial contract negotiations and legal compliance across the APJ region and offers a work-from-home arrangement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of three legal and contracts professionals responsible for negotiating and structuring a variety of commercial contracts, including channel agreements, cloud/SaaS and software subscription contracts, procurement, NDAs, RFPs, and professional services agreements in India, APJ, and beyond.
  • Provide regional legal support related to APJ compliance, employment, litigation, and investigations.
  • Collaborate closely with the global legal department and other key stakeholders.
  • Support APJ and global legal teams on ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Develop and improve workflow processes between the legal department and other departments to facilitate dealmaking and compliance initiatives, including leveraging AI tools and automation opportunities.

Requirements

  • Legal authority to practice law in India.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in-house and/or at a law firm, with proven expertise in drafting and negotiating technology contracts.
  • Experience handling India and APJ compliance, employment, litigation, and investigations (approximately 10-15% of workload).
  • Ability to balance legal risks with business strategy and synthesize directions effectively.
  • Self-starting, proactive, adaptable, and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects while adjusting advice based on shifting priorities and legal developments.

  • Prior experience representing high-growth companies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a distributed team environment.
  • Willingness to participate in limited travel as required.
