Overview
A leading personal lines property and casualty insurance group in the United States is seeking a Senior Trial Attorney to join their team remotely. This role involves managing a full inventory of complex litigated files, including discovery, arbitration, mediation, and trials, with minimal oversight. The attorney will also provide guidance and mentorship to less senior attorneys.
Responsibilities
- Handle complex personal injury litigation cases from investigation through trial, including discovery, motions, arbitration hearings, and jury trials.
- Prepare legal pleadings, motions, discovery, and trial documents independently, coordinating closely with claims specialists.
- Appear and advocate on behalf of the insurer and its member insureds.
- Manage the most complex and/or highest value cases.
- Work on complex legal matters or projects, including non-litigation issues.
- Serve as a resource to resolve major issues within the legal specialty area with considerable independence.
- Anticipate and advise on potential legal issues impacting insurance and motor club operations.
- Travel as needed for arbitrations, trials, and occasional in-person team meetings.
- No billable hours requirement.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate and active license to practice law in California, in good standing.
- 10-12+ years of experience in insurance defense practice with significant courtroom and first-chair trial experience.
- Proficiency in personal injury litigation, including liability assessment, causation, damages, coverage, and understanding of the tri-partite relationship.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate in an organized and timely manner.
- Ability to work collaboratively with paralegals and support staff.
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and online legal research tools.
- Ability to manage a complex case inventory efficiently and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Advanced analytical and legal skills with the ability to think and act independently in the client’s best interest.
- Knowledge and appreciation of legal ethics.

Location
- This is a remote position open to candidates located anywhere in the United States except Hawaii and Alaska.
- Candidates must be licensed and in good standing with the California Bar.
