Overview
This full-time Staff Attorney 2 position is part of the Equal Access and Housing Practice Group, focusing on ending discrimination against people with disabilities and increasing access to housing and public/private programs. The role involves client representation, litigation, advocacy, and community outreach.
Location
Remote within California, with options to be based in Sacramento, Berkeley, Los Angeles, or San Diego.
Salary
$80,356.96 - $117,671.41 annually, depending on experience and internal equity analysis.
Responsibilities
- Develop and participate in litigation including class actions, complex cases, and appeals related to disability rights.
- Represent individual clients in negotiations, mediations, administrative, and judicial proceedings.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including legal services agencies and community organizations, to address systemic issues.
- Expand service delivery to underserved populations through community outreach, workshops, and know-your-rights trainings.
- Prepare and coordinate training materials, publications, reports, and presentations.
- Mentor attorneys, advocates, fellows, clerks, and interns/externs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the California State Bar.
- At least five years of legal experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with people with disabilities and low-income clients, incorporating race equity and community lawyering principles.
- Experience in disability-related law areas such as ADA Title II, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, FEHA, Unruh Civil Rights Act, Disabled Persons Act, or related statutes.
- Experience in litigation, administrative practice, complex legal matters, or community organizing.
- Proven ability to lead multiple advocacy projects including intake/outreach, administrative proceedings, writs, eviction defense, or individual client lawsuits.
- Experience working with persons with disabilities and/or multi-ethnic communities.
- Familiarity with the disability rights or justice movement and extensive contacts in the disability community.
- Strong professional responsibility, ethics, and ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks.
- Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.
Desired Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish, an Asian language, or American Sign Language.
- Experience with or contacts in ethnic or language-distinct communities.
- Understanding of race equity and community lawyering principles.
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with diverse groups.
Working Conditions

Travel
Up to 25% travel for out-of-town meetings, training, or outreach activities.
