Overview
This primarily remote role based in New York involves independently managing moderately complex civil litigation matters related to insurance claims. The position requires expertise in legal principles, insurance law, strategic case management, and client relationship skills. The attorney will represent the organization and its policyholders in cases involving monetary damages or compensation for personal injuries or property damage of moderate value.
Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of litigation involving claims up to approximately $500,000 exposure.
- Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
- Lead settlement negotiations and participate in hearings, trials, and mediations.
- Support senior counsel in case handling through trial preparation and management.
- Develop and refine legal strategies for discovery, investigation, and trial preparation.
- Utilize advanced e-discovery tools, case management systems, and data analysis software.
- Provide legal opinions and strategic advice to clients and claims representatives.
- Identify and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys.
- Design and conduct training sessions and workshops for legal and claims departments.
- Mentor junior attorneys and legal support staff.
- Ensure all legal documents comply with laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Identify and implement process automation and workflow improvements.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the New York State bar and in good standing.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience, preferably in insurance law and related litigation.
- Proven ability to manage moderately complex litigation with favorable outcomes.
- General knowledge of insurance law, workers’ compensation, and/or No Fault law.
- Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with advanced e-discovery tools, legal case management software, and remote collaboration technologies.
- Experience mentoring and leading junior attorneys and legal staff.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills.
- Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
