Overview

This primarily remote role based in California requires an experienced Attorney with over 5 years of litigation experience. The position focuses on drafting complex dispositive and discovery motions, conducting legal research, and independently managing moderately complex civil litigation matters. A strong understanding of tort law, civil procedure, strategic case management, and advanced technology use is essential. The attorney will develop legal strategies and maintain high standards of legal ethics and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Draft complex legal motions, memoranda, and conduct thorough legal research.
  • Independently manage all phases of litigation involving claims up to approximately $500,000 exposure.
  • Lead settlement negotiations and participate in hearings, trials, and mediations.
  • Support senior counsel in case handling through trial preparation and management.
  • Develop and refine legal strategies for discovery, investigation, and trial preparation.
  • Utilize advanced e-discovery tools, case management systems, and data analysis software to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Provide clear legal opinions and strategic advice to clients and Claims Representatives.
  • Build and maintain trusted client relationships by understanding their operations and legal challenges.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys.
  • Design and conduct training sessions and workshops for Legal, Claims, and related departments.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and legal support staff to enhance team performance.
  • Ensure all legal documents are accurate, compliant with laws and company policies, and adhere to ethical guidelines and professional conduct rules.
  • Identify and implement process automation and workflow improvements.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California bar and in good standing; additional licenses for specific boards or federal courts may be required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience, preferably in insurance law and related litigation.
  • Proven ability to manage moderately complex litigation with successful outcomes.
  • General knowledge of insurance law, workers’ compensation, and/or No Fault law.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with advanced e-discovery tools, legal case management software, and remote collaboration technologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills for junior attorneys and legal staff.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management abilities.
  • Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
