Overview

This primarily remote role based in California involves representing the organization and its policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation matters related to claims for monetary damages or compensation for personal injuries or property damage of moderate value.

Responsibilities

  • Draft motions, conduct legal research, and prepare memoranda.
  • Independently manage all phases of litigation involving claims with exposure up to approximately $500,000.
  • Lead settlement negotiations and participate in hearings, trials, and mediations.
  • Support senior trial and litigation counsel throughout the litigation process.
  • Develop and refine legal strategies for discovery, investigation, and trial preparation.
  • Utilize advanced e-discovery tools, case management systems, and data analysis software to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Provide legal opinions and strategic advice to clients and claims representatives.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys.
  • Design and conduct training sessions and workshops for legal and claims departments.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and legal support staff.
  • Ensure all legal documents comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines, licensing requirements, and professional conduct standards.
  • Identify and implement process automation and workflow improvements.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California bar and in good standing; additional licenses to practice before specific boards or federal courts may be required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience, preferably in insurance law and related litigation.
  • Proven ability to manage moderately complex litigation and achieve favorable outcomes.
  • General knowledge of insurance law, and as needed, workers’ compensation and/or No Fault law.
  • Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with advanced e-discovery tools, legal case management software, and remote collaboration technologies.
  • Experience mentoring and leading junior attorneys and legal staff.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills.
  • Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance with regulatory and professional standards.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary range is based on skills, experience, education, certifications, and location.
  • Compensation plans may include commission and/or bonus earnings depending on role and performance.

Location

  • This position is primarily remote within the state of California, with occasional required appearances.
