Overview

A remote Supervising Attorney position is available to lead a team of attorneys handling insurance defense litigation in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. The role involves managing attorneys who work from home and appear in court as needed. A Connecticut bar license is preferred, with Massachusetts and/or Rhode Island licenses considered a plus. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package including an annual bonus potential up to 20% of salary, a generous 401(k), auto allowance, paid time off, medical/dental/vision coverage, paid parental leave, and no billable hour requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of attorneys representing clients in insurance defense litigation across all levels.
  • Ensure competent, ethical, efficient, and diligent representation of clients in all assigned cases.
  • Oversee legal file handling by assigned attorneys, ensuring adherence to department policies and timely communication with clients and claims.
  • Assist in achieving office goals and collaborate with support leadership.
  • Utilize a formal quality assurance program to maintain high-quality file handling.
  • Work proactively with leadership on staffing, hiring, onboarding, team building, training, development, engagement, retention, and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and transparency within the team.
  • Promote continuous improvement through performance management to optimize individual and organizational performance.
  • Handle assigned insurance defense matters of moderate to high complexity and/or exposure in relevant courts.
  • Encourage diversity of thought and maintain communication with internal and external stakeholders to meet client, department, and company goals.
  • Use analytics, metrics, and financial analysis to develop and drive strategies.
  • Communicate regularly about changes in goals, strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Engage with claims executives on legal aspects of high complexity/exposure cases and litigation strategies.

Physical Requirements

  • Work performed in-person at an office or virtually at an approved alternative location; may include fieldwork.
  • Indoor, climate-controlled environment with normal office distractions.
  • Frequent sitting or standing for prolonged periods.
  • Occasional movement including navigating stairs, ramps, and uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally lift or carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent use of hands, arms, and fingers for typing and other fine motor tasks.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, twisting, and reaching.
  • Visual and auditory abilities sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively.
  • May require regular travel between offices, alternative work locations, and field sites.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law in applicable states upon hire; must handle matters within states of licensure and courts of admittance.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years as a licensed, practicing attorney in good standing with the state bar(s) where the position is located.
  • Experience handling and trying cases of high exposure and/or complexity preferred.
  • Multi-state jurisdictional practice and leadership experience or demonstrated leadership aptitude preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location.

Salary ranges by location:

  • California: $146,925 - $249,700
  • Colorado: $137,775 - $215,490
  • Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, Vermont: $137,775 - $230,560
  • Massachusetts: $137,775 - $230,560
  • Maryland: $137,775 - $230,560
  • District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, Ohio: $137,775 - $249,700
  • Albany County, NY / Cleveland, OH: $146,925 - $215,490
  • Washington: $137,775 - $262,000

Location

This position is remote with attorneys located in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Some in-person appearances and trials are required within these states.
