Overview

This role is for Legal Counsel working in the Houston, Texas area. Responsibilities focus on case strategy, timely case management, and ensuring accurate documentation and communication throughout assigned matters.

Responsibilities

  • Handle legal work on assigned cases.
  • Aggressively pursue files referred by the Claims Department to Staff Counsel.
  • Create and maintain a documented strategy for each assigned case, including intangible factors such as the judge, plaintiff attorney, and aggravating factors.
  • Develop, organize, and maintain document files containing pleadings, briefs, and memorandums.
  • Prepare and submit timely status reports to claims handlers for all significant activities, at no greater than 60-day intervals.
  • Ensure all files are properly documented and organized.
  • Provide prompt and timely responses to telephone calls and correspondence.
  • Utilize and/or ensure use of case management software to maintain notes, diary, calendar, billing, and related information in accordance with established operating guidelines and legal and ethical requirements.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a trial attorney.
  • Member of the State Bar, maintaining all necessary licensing and continuing education requirements.
  • Required to travel as needed.
  • 100% remote role; the selected candidate must reside in the Houston, TX area to be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling insurance defense work.
