Overview
A fast-growing fintech company is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their Legal, Compliance & Policy team in the US. This role offers the opportunity to work as a generalist lawyer across product counseling, regulatory analysis, public policy support, litigation management, and commercial contracting within an AI-powered fintech environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide practical legal and regulatory advice on consumer credit products and related offerings to product teams and business stakeholders.
- Identify legal risks, interpret applicable laws, and support compliant product development.
- Manage litigation, arbitration, and dispute-related matters by coordinating with outside counsel and internal teams.
- Oversee document requests and ensure efficient and strategic handling of legal disputes.
- Review, draft, and negotiate vendor agreements, NDAs, and other commercial contracts.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Compliance, Product, Policy, Operations, and other teams to deliver timely and pragmatic legal guidance.
- Help build and scale the legal function by establishing processes, templates, and frameworks.
Requirements
- 5–7 years of legal experience, preferably in financial services, consumer financial regulation, or fintech.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active admission to at least one US state bar with the ability to practice law.
- Experience advising on consumer credit products and related regulatory frameworks.
- Strong background providing legal guidance on new products, regulatory changes, and evolving legal requirements.
- Familiarity with legal and regulatory issues related to credit card products, installment loans, or similar consumer finance offerings.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating vendor agreements, NDAs, and commercial contracts.
- Experience managing outside counsel and supporting litigation, arbitration, investigations, or dispute-related matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex legal analysis for diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, manage a varied workload, and exercise strong judgment in a fast-paced environment.
- Pragmatic, business-oriented approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a startup or high-growth fintech environment.
- Knowledge of legal issues related to AI, emerging technology, or automated decision-making.
- Familiarity with public policy, legislative analysis, or advocacy in regulated industries.
- Prior law firm experience in consumer financial services or a combination of law firm and in-house experience.
- Broad-based legal experience across regulatory, product, litigation, and commercial work.

Location
- United States (fully remote)
Compensation Range
- United States: $160,000 - $215,000 gross annually
- Compensation for other locations will be discussed during the interview process
- Final compensation will be based on qualifications, skills, and experience
