Overview

This role involves leading the global commercial legal function for a technology company specializing in enterprise data and AI solutions. The position requires strategic leadership to align legal priorities with revenue growth, market expansion, and product evolution. The legal team supports complex commercial and technology agreements, including SaaS, cloud platform deals, strategic alliances, and public sector contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the long-term strategy for the global commercial legal function.
  • Serve as the primary legal partner to senior executives including CRO, CFO, CPO, CTO, and go-to-market leadership.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing, globally distributed team of commercial attorneys and contract managers.
  • Establish enterprise-wide standards for commercial contracting, including risk tiering, escalation frameworks, template governance, and playbook strategy.
  • Benchmark and lead negotiation of AI-specific contractual terms, addressing data usage, model training, output ownership, liability, and transparency.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to optimize contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems and integrate with Quote-to-Cash processes.
  • Champion AI-powered legal tools and workflows to improve contracting efficiency and pipeline visibility.
  • Lead negotiation of strategic partnerships, including co-sell, reseller, and marketplace agreements.
  • Oversee Trusted AI governance contracting and translate evolving global AI regulations into practical contracting positions.
  • Partner with Procurement on global vendor contracting, SaaS, professional services, and infrastructure agreements, including vendor risk frameworks.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives involving Legal, Finance, Product, Revenue, and Procurement to influence global go-to-market strategies.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of combined law firm and in-house experience, including substantial senior commercial legal leadership at a global SaaS or enterprise technology company.
  • Juris Doctor or equivalent U.S. law degree with active bar admission in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
  • 5+ years leading and scaling teams of attorneys and contract managers.
  • Hands-on experience leading CLM implementation or expansion with integration across Sales, Finance, and Revenue Operations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in AI governance and product legal issues, including drafting and negotiating AI-specific contractual terms and advising on emerging AI regulations.
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise SaaS contracting, strategic partnerships, data privacy, and complex partner, channel, and public sector agreements, including familiarity with FedRAMP, FAR/DFARS, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead geographically distributed teams in a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
