Overview

A legal technology organization is seeking a Vice President of Legal Content to provide strategic leadership over the planning, development, and execution of its legal content software solutions. These products include estate planning and elder law drafting software and related tools. The VP will serve as the senior stakeholder for these products, ensuring their value, usability, and usefulness to members and prospects. This role reports to the Chief Content Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Legal Content team, including Editors in Chief, Director of Content Development, Legal Editors, and Product Implementation Manager; supervise and support these leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Content Officer to establish and execute the strategic direction for core software solutions.
  • Oversee the development of legal content and authoring tools from ideation through production, proactively addressing issues and risks.
  • Communicate with members, product and engineering teams, and other stakeholders to identify and assess content and software requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Learning team to develop educational materials related to legal content solutions.
  • Present and create written materials on legal technology and substantive estate planning topics for members and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legal regulations, industry best practices, and company procedures.
  • Establish and communicate strategic direction across all areas of responsibility.
  • Provide periodic status reports and presentations on department and project performance.
  • Develop, implement, and track key performance metrics, milestones, documentation, and budgets.
  • Analyze program, project, and process costs.
  • Promote cross-department collaboration.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends in the legal technology industry.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Executive Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Interview, hire, and train management-level staff within the Legal Content department.
  • Oversee daily workflow of the Legal Content department.
  • Provide constructive and timely performance feedback and evaluations.
  • Lead employee accountability processes, including corrective action and termination, in compliance with company guidelines.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry-related experience, including at least 3 years in an upper management role.
  • Over 10 years of experience in estate planning and/or elder law.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with legal content software solutions related to estate planning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to improve business processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
  • Ability to identify and implement best practices and continual performance measurement.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Interest in leveraging technology to solve legal practice challenges.
  • Knowledge of document automation software preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Willingness to regularly teach, present, and write.
  • Ability to travel to conferences as required.

Location

This is a full-time, virtual position. The successful candidate will work remotely from their home office. Occasional travel may be required for meetings, trade shows, and training.
