Overview

The organization is seeking a Workers' Compensation Defense Trial Attorney for a remote role working anywhere in the Northern California area.

This position involves handling all phases of Workers' Compensation litigation—from initial evaluation through resolution. You will partner with claims professionals to develop case strategy, conduct discovery, negotiate settlements, appear at hearings, and advocate for clients throughout the litigation process. Senior-level attorneys may also mentor colleagues and serve as technical resources on complex matters.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all phases of Workers' Compensation litigation, from initial evaluation through resolution
  • Partner with claims professionals to develop case strategy
  • Conduct discovery
  • Negotiate settlements
  • Appear at hearings
  • Advocate for clients throughout the litigation process
  • (Senior-level attorneys) Mentor colleagues and serve as a technical resource on complex matters

Requirements

Trial Attorney

  • Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of litigation experience
  • Member in good standing of the California State Bar
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Experience using Lexis, Westlaw, or similar legal research platforms
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims environment, insurance defense litigation, and legal procedure

Preferred Qualifications

  • Workers' Compensation defense experience
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Trial, hearing, mediation, and settlement experience
  • (For Senior Trial Attorney candidates) Experience handling moderate to high-complexity matters, mentoring attorneys, and serving as a subject matter resource

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay is based on role, location, skills, and experience, following local laws to ensure fair compensation
  • Bonuses and merit increases may be available
  • The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location
  • Proposed salary range for the Trial Attorney: $155,000.00 - $180,000.00
  • Short-term incentive bonus eligibility: 10%
