Overview

An established U.S.-based law firm is seeking a highly experienced Advanced Paralegal or Attorney to support litigating attorneys on Minnesota workers’ compensation cases. This is a long-term, fully remote engagement requiring significant, hands-on experience with Minnesota workers’ compensation litigation (including work comp and related tort claims).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare case files for the litigating attorney from start to finish, including legal research specific to Minnesota workers’ compensation and injury law.
  • Review medical records and cross-reference them against the client’s account of the injury to build a complete, accurate case picture.
  • Ensure each case meets the proper medical-legal standards required to win in front of a judge or in settlement.
  • Make appearances on behalf of the attorney as needed throughout the case lifecycle (short of appearing at trial itself).
  • Work under direct supervision of, and in close coordination with, the firm’s litigating attorneys.
  • Act essentially as the attorney would on a case, short of appearing at trial.

Requirements

  • Significant, hands-on experience with Minnesota workers’ compensation cases or closely related injury and insurance litigation work.
  • Not an entry-level or general admin role; candidates fresh out of school are not a fit for this position.
  • Ability to independently manage a full caseload, including:
    • legal research
    • medical record review
    • case preparation
    • appearances
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Based in Mexico, Central America, or South America, with availability aligned to U.S. Central or Eastern business hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with workers’ compensation litigation workflows and preparation for hearings or settlement.
  • Experience handling work comp matters with related tort claims and injury litigation.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $10–$20 USD per hour (depending on qualifications and experience); final terms to be confirmed.
  • Independent Contractor arrangement, with contracting and payments managed through Deel.

Location & Work Arrangement

  • Fully remote.
  • Location listed: Guatemala.
  • Work hours aligned to U.S. Central or Eastern business hours.

Additional Information

  • Legal support role only; all work is performed under the supervision of the firm’s licensed attorneys. This role is not a position to practice U.S. law independently.
  • Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a written English and legal-support skills assessment.
  • Application materials: Please submit your CV in English, including legal education, bar admission or professional credentials (if applicable), English proficiency, and relevant workers’ compensation, injury, or insurance litigation experience.
