Overview
This role involves working closely with investment staff to negotiate and manage investments across all asset classes, including public equity, fixed income, real estate, private equity, real assets, absolute return, credit, and opportunistic strategies. The position requires active participation in the negotiation and drafting of substantive documents and reviewing related legal matters arising in portfolio management.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with investment staff on negotiation and management of diverse investment portfolios.
- Participate in drafting and negotiating all substantive investment-related documents.
- Review and address legal matters related to portfolio management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- At least two years of legal practice experience following admission to the Bar.
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience in investment management law, especially alternative investments.
- Over 5 years of experience in a large corporate law firm and/or in-house legal department focusing on private investment fund formation and/or mergers and acquisitions.
- Knowledge of fixed income and public equity investments.
- Familiarity with corporate, partnership, securities law, and ERISA.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Experience with bespoke investment transactions.
- Ability to manage multiple matters concurrently while meeting transaction deadlines.
- Collaborative approach with investment staff and pragmatic problem-solving skills.
- Effective oral and written communication with senior legal and business personnel.
- Experience managing outside counsel cost-effectively.
- Working knowledge of finance and accounting principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
Telecommuting
Telecommuting is supported where reasonable based on operational needs. New employees are generally restricted from telecommuting for the first 8 calendar weeks. After this period, telecommuting may be permitted up to 5 days per pay period, subject to alignment with duties and performance.
