Overview
This role provides legal advice and serves as in-house counsel for an organization overseeing two accredited institutions of higher education. The position involves a broad range of legal responsibilities including regulatory compliance, litigation support, contract negotiation, and policy review.
Responsibilities
- Assist with federal regulatory matters related to higher education institutions.
- Support litigation and administrative proceedings involving the organization.
- Provide legal analysis and advice on policy and regulatory compliance issues.
- Investigate legal issues and recommend appropriate actions.
- Negotiate and draft contracts, legal documents, and policies.
- Conduct research on federal and state legal questions.
- Assist with general corporate legal matters.
- Review university programs, procedures, and policies for legal compliance.
- Deliver legal and compliance training to internal clients.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar or eligibility for admission in Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland, or Washington, DC.
- Minimum of three years of legal practice experience.
- Higher education legal experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Mobility within an office setting, including movement between floors.
- Willingness to work more than 40 hours per week as needed.
- Strong mental acuity and ability to manage stressful situations.
- Regular and dependable attendance and punctuality.

- Salary range: $82,800 to $124,200 annually.
