Overview
This role is for a highly experienced attorney who works independently and carries major matter, team, or client responsibilities, with additional project-specific mentoring responsibilities for other attorneys. The position frequently supervises professional teams handling legal matters of substantial importance.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the principal legal advisor supporting day-to-day operation of non-nuclear generation assets on the East Coast and Mid-West.
- Partner with operations leadership, commercial teams, engineering, environmental, asset management, and legal subject matter experts to identify legal and commercial risk early and develop creative, business-oriented strategies that enable safe and reliable operations of the assets.
- Advise on compliance and matters including environmental, financial, real property, tax, commercial, and corporate issues.
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on complex operational agreements, including co-generation steam and energy supply, fuel supply, O&M, LTSA, procurement, construction, and real estate agreements.
- Provide strategic legal support during planned outages, forced outages, emergency operations events, major equipment failures, and restoration activities.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, including asset integrations, due diligence, transaction documentation, and regulatory approvals.
- Manage outside counsel to maximize benefit and minimize costs.
- Develop familiarity (not primary responsibility) with federal and wholesale power market regulatory matters associated with these power plants, including PJM, ISO-NE, and NYISO, and support associated compliance efforts.
- Collaborate with legal department subject matter experts (including Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction/Engineering, Government and Regulatory, Trading and Origination, Tax, Accounting, and Public Relations/Corporate Communications) to develop practical legal solutions supporting fleet optimization.
- Build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization by translating complex legal issues into clear, actionable business advice.
Minimum Qualifications
- LLB or JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions.
- At least 10-12 years of professional experience in a specialized area of law.
- Comprehensive knowledge of legal principles, practices, and procedures to complete complex assignments.
- Excellent legal research and analytical abilities, with ongoing knowledge of federal and/or state law.
- Strong analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of practicing commercial law in a law firm or corporation, including substantial experience providing commercial legal support to power generation assets or energy infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of power generation operations in PJM, ISO-NE, and NYISO.
- Experience serving as the primary legal advisor to plant operations, commercial and asset management teams.
- Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced operating environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Expected salary range of $219,600 to $244,000 (varies based on experience).

Location
- Remote flexibility, with the requirement to work an East Coast Time Zone (EST) schedule.
- Travel is required to meet with team members, organizational partners, and customers; approximately 10-15% travel anticipated annually.
