Overview

This role provides legal advice and serves as in-house counsel for an education technology services division within a larger organization. The position involves handling a wide variety of legal matters primarily related to contracts and corporate compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and draft various contracts including agreements with corporate clients, vendors, and consultants.
  • Draft, revise, and enforce policies governing contract review and execution.
  • Manage and optimize the contract review process from initial concept through execution, ensuring protection of the organization's interests while maintaining efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including internal subject matter experts and business leaders, during contract review.
  • Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings related to contracts and commercial disputes.
  • Investigate legal issues and recommend actions related to contractual obligations.
  • Support general corporate legal matters.
  • Provide legal and compliance training to internal clients.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Bar admission in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Maryland, Washington, DC, or Minnesota.
  • Minimum of three years of legal practice experience.
  • Experience negotiating and drafting contracts preferred.
  • Familiarity with contract management software.
  • Experience with SaaS contracts is a plus.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in a dynamic environment.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Mobility within an office setting, including movement between floors.
  • Willingness to work more than 40 hours per week as business needs require.
  • Ability to access information using a computer.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $84,900.00 - $127,400.00 annually.
