Overview

A senior legal leadership role is available for an Assistant General Counsel to lead an industry pillar within a global deal team supporting complex enterprise transactions with major customers in the Americas. This role involves strategic legal leadership, direct involvement in high-impact negotiations, operational excellence, and innovative use of technology and AI. The position requires navigating regulatory, cultural, and contracting diversity across multiple jurisdictions and languages.

The Assistant General Counsel will serve as the primary legal contact for senior enterprise leadership in the Americas, focusing on Financial Services, Manufacturing, and Retail industries. Collaboration with sales, operations, finance, product and engineering, marketing, and security/trust teams is essential to align customer expectations with risk posture, policies, and compliance obligations. The role also works closely with regional legal leaders who specialize in public sector matters and non-deal workstreams.

Reporting to the Global Deal Team Lead for Americas, this position is one of three Assistant General Counsels on the leadership team, working together to maintain consistency, share best practices, and scale solutions.

This role can be based in Redmond, Silicon Valley, Chicago, New York City, or Washington, D.C., and involves some international travel.

Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead and develop a high-performing legal team supporting complex enterprise transactions.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Translate global priorities into regional strategy and operating plans aligned with sales and market drivers.
  • Manage team operations including intake, prioritization, escalation, and executive communications.
  • Drive process simplification, clarify decision rights, and adopt scalable approaches to improve speed and consistency.
  • Coach and develop talent, build succession plans, and enhance negotiation and drafting capabilities across the Americas.
  • Collaborate with regional leads to create cross-region development and "follow-the-sun" opportunities.

Complex Commercial Transactions & Negotiation Leadership

  • Lead and support high-value, complex enterprise negotiations across the Americas.
  • Advise senior business executives and drive risk-informed outcomes in multi-jurisdictional environments.
  • Develop and implement regional negotiation strategies and scalable solutions for recurring issues such as AI models, data usage, and security.
  • Mentor lawyers and business partners on negotiation tactics, drafting, and risk analysis.
  • Conduct targeted training and deal retrospectives on emerging regulatory and AI topics.
  • Partner with sales, finance, and field teams to identify and resolve systemic deal blockers.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and applicable laws, collaborating with specialist teams as needed.
  • Support enterprise revenue objectives by enabling efficient, customer-focused contracting for cloud and AI solutions.

Operational Excellence, Process Improvement & AI Adoption

  • Apply systems thinking to improve end-to-end deal processes and enhance seller and customer experiences.
  • Promote adoption of AI-enabled contracting, knowledge, and workflow tools to streamline negotiations and automate routine work.
  • Maintain legal review and quality controls while increasing consistency in drafting and issue-spotting.
  • Establish feedback loops and knowledge-sharing mechanisms to scale best practices and inform global standards.

Qualifications

Required

  • Juris Doctor degree or international equivalent.
  • 9+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in law firm or in-house roles.
  • Significant experience leading or influencing complex commercial transactions in technology and/or enterprise sales environments, ideally across multiple jurisdictions or multinational contexts.
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and ability to meet admission requirements in relevant jurisdictions.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated leadership and talent development experience with the ability to build high-performing, inclusive teams.
  • Deep experience supporting enterprise sales and complex, high-value customer negotiations balancing customer experience, business priorities, and legal risk.
  • Experience advising on technology transactions including cloud services, software licensing, SaaS, professional services, strategic partnerships, and AI models.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in large, matrixed, multinational organizations and lead through influence across multiple countries.
  • Experience managing localization and jurisdiction-specific contracting considerations.
  • Exceptional negotiation and drafting skills with a track record of closing complex, high-value agreements and managing escalations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including advising and influencing leaders and coaching others.
  • Passion for innovation and scaling high-quality deal support across the Americas as part of a global team.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Typical base pay range in the U.S.: USD $160,700 - $284,400 per year.
  • Base pay range in San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area: USD $207,700 - $311,500 per year.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.

Location

  • This position can be based in Redmond, Silicon Valley, Chicago, New York City, or Washington, D.C.
  • Some international travel is required.
