Overview
A nonprofit research consortium focused on developing an AI-based COVID-19 diagnostic smartphone app is seeking a part-time volunteer Corporate Attorney or Associate Attorney with an IT orientation. This role involves collaborating with management and international legal teams to address data privacy concerns across various jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
- Review and adapt legal documents such as NDAs, contracts, and partnership agreements to comply with local regulations.
- Advise management and information security teams on data security policies relevant to local laws.
- Research data privacy and protection issues related to regulations like CCPA, GDPR, and LGPD.
- Support responses to inquiries from government authorities and individual requests, including data deletion and data portability.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local and international regulatory standards concerning data treatment and related risks.
- Translate and localize legal documents as needed.
Requirements
- Master's level legal student (LL.M) or recent graduate who has completed a JD and passed the relevant Bar exam.
- Organized, collaborative, detail-oriented, and tech-savvy.
- Exceptional communication skills with responsiveness to emails and messaging.
- Strong sense of responsibility and ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with nonprofit organizations, including research or internships.
- Understanding of nuanced legal terms such as "reasonable efforts."
- Fluency in Spanish and/or Brazilian Portuguese is a plus.
Commitment
- Approximately 10+ hours per week while actively localizing policies.
