Overview

A dedicated humanitarian immigration law firm, established in 2020, is seeking an Associate Attorney to support its Legal Operations Department. The firm focuses on providing advocacy and support to individuals and families seeking safety and stability, often assisting clients who have been turned away elsewhere.

This fully remote position is open to candidates located in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Michigan.

Responsibilities

  • Manage client escalations independently, escalating to legal leadership when necessary according to Standard Operations Procedures and risk assessment.
  • Identify and escalate firm risk and policy-related issues to legal leadership for review.
  • Maintain and update scripts, FAQs, and client communications to ensure accuracy and currency.
  • Identify refund or contract issues and route sensitive client escalations to appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborate with Staff Attorneys to keep legal guidance current, documenting changes to USCIS policy and firm standards within workflows, training materials, and knowledge bases.
  • Achieve established goals while supporting firmwide operational priorities.
  • Coordinate legal training, including reinforcing existing training, providing refreshers, and ensuring consistent application of new guidance across operational teams.
  • Conduct legal research on immigration law topics.
  • Serve as a legal subject matter expert (SME) for operational projects, supporting process mapping, policy alignment, and implementation within assigned teams.
  • Support process documentation and continuous improvement initiatives within the department.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with a state bar.
  • 3 to 6 years of experience in immigration law.
  • Prior immigration law experience is required.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience with case management software systems is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including typing, MS Word, MS Excel, document management (e.g., Dropbox), and email (MS Outlook).
  • Commitment to assisting individuals living in the U.S. to obtain legal documents and maintain family unity.
