Overview
A leading food tech platform serving workplaces across the US is seeking an experienced and proactive Assistant Corporate Counsel (Commercial) to join their in-house legal team. This role involves providing comprehensive legal support primarily focused on commercial contracts, including vendor and inbound agreements, while partnering closely with cross-functional teams to support the business's rapid growth.
Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate, review, and interpret a wide variety of commercial agreements, ensuring alignment with both business and legal objectives
- Develop and enhance contract templates, playbooks, talk tracks, and legal processes to streamline and scale contracting
- Create and deliver training sessions on legal issues, contract best practices, and negotiation strategies
- Provide practical legal analysis, strategic guidance, and risk assessment to internal clients and teams
- Manage assigned legal projects through to completion
- Assist with other legal matters such as legal research, strategic transactions, and handling legal escalations
Requirements
- 3-5 years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house setting, with a focus on commercial contracts
- Membership in at least one state bar
- Strong drafting skills, including the ability to create contracts from scratch and a solid understanding of key contract provisions such as confidentiality, indemnity, termination, and representations
- Excellent negotiation skills in both cooperative and adversarial contexts
- Ability to clearly communicate legal implications to internal stakeholders
- Strong work ethic, high integrity, and analytical skills
- Good judgment with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives; capable of working independently and escalating issues appropriately
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels and with external parties
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
Compensation & Benefits
- National total target cash compensation range (base salary plus bonus target): $147,157 - $210,477 annually
- Final offer depends on experience, expertise, and geographic region
