Overview
An organization is seeking an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in Georgia courts, focusing on first party insurance defense. This position is based in Macon, GA, within the Staff Counsel team.
Responsibilities
- Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
- Provide opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
- Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery processes, including depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath
- Defend assigned matters through trial or dispositive hearings as applicable
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree
- Admission to and good standing with the Georgia Bar
- 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury
- Ability to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences
- Strong written communication skills to document files clearly and professionally
- Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and manage multiple priorities
- Capacity to learn and apply extensive technical and procedural information
Preferred Qualifications
- Civil litigation experience
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience
- Professional communication skills in person, via telephone, and written correspondence
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $118,900.00 - $185,525.00
- Final salary offer depends on role scope, candidate experience, education, location, and market considerations
